Addressing transfer procedures in a child custody case

On Behalf of | Jan 21, 2023 | Child Custody |

Divorce is difficult for every member of the family, and Mississippi parents typically want to do everything possible to make this process easier for their children. One of the most helpful ways to do this is to make the transfer process smoother as kids are going between homes. Drop-off and pick-up procedures may seem like a simple matter, but they can have a significant impact on how well the overall custody order works, as well as the mental and emotional health of the children.

Set a standard

It is helpful to set a standard for drop-off and pick-up procedures as early as possible. Parents may include terms for these procedures in their custody and visitation order. If parents are unable to come up with a sustainable solution and reasonable procedures, it may be necessary for a judge to determine what those procedures should be.

The transition between homes can be emotionally challenging for children, and it can lead to feelings of stress. An established routine and clear procedures can reduce the mental and emotional strain the divorce can have on the children. Parents may have to set aside their own feelings to make this a better process for their kids.

The best interests of the children

The ultimate goal of any custody and visitation decisions is to protect the best interests of the children above all else. If a Mississippi parent is negotiating the terms of their final order, it is helpful to consider including drop-off and pick-up procedures. It could be beneficial to work with an experienced attorney when navigating these complex choices.
