Making the decision about child custody

On Behalf of | Jun 12, 2023 | Child Custody |

There is no one-size-fits-all solution to parenting after divorce. One of the most common concerns for Mississippi parents after their divorce is how this decision will impact their kids. Child custody is a difficult and complex issue, and there are many different ways that parents can make a decision on this matter. Parents may find that is challenging to balance their desired outcome with what may actually be in the best interests of their children

Court or negotiations?

There are times when parents are able to create a meaningful custody plan by working together to reach a conclusion on parenting time, visitation and other matters. They may be able to discuss terms amicably and cooperatively, and going to court is not necessary. Parents may also be able to avoid going to court by mediating their custody issues or working with different professionals to reach beneficial conclusions.

If an out-of-court solution is not possible, parents may find themselves preparing for a courtroom fight. When parents are at odds, the court will use witness testimony, the input of both parents, expert evaluations and other evidence to make the best possible decision for the child. The best interest of the child is always the ultimate goal.

Parental rights and the needs of the kids

A Mississippi parent facing a divorce may benefit from the support and assistance of an experienced attorney when navigating custody issues.
